The Seminoles kick off their campaign on Saturday, August 30, against No. 8 Alabama at the newly renovated Doak Campbell Stadium. It will be the ultimate litmus test for a program eager to put a disastrous 2–10 finish in 2024 behind them. Just a year prior, Norvell’s squad was a national story, boasting a 13–1 record in 2023 only to be controversially left out of the College Football Playoff. According to USA TODAY’s Paul Myerberg and Jim Sergent, FSU is projected to make significant strides in 2025. Their prediction: an 8–4 overall record with a 5–3 mark in ACC play. That would tie the Seminoles for fourth in the conference alongside SMU, Georgia Tech, and Duke—behind only Clemson, Miami, and Louisville. Clemson, led by quarterback Cade Klubnik, is seen as the frontrunner for both an ACC crown and a national championship push, while Miami looks to lean on transfer QB Carson Beck. Still, Florida State is widely considered a prime rebound candidate, with plenty of eyes on whether Norvell can restore consistency to a program that has been as thrilling as it has been unpredictable.
