Rockets GM Shuts Down Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Buzz
The Houston Rockets have officially silenced one of the NBA’s hottest offseason rumors. General manager Rafael Stone addressed speculation linking Giannis Antetokounmpo to Houston, making it clear the talk never had any foundation.
“No,” Stone said bluntly when asked about potential trade discussions for the two-time MVP. “I deal well with Jon Horst (Bucks GM), I really like him. Jon was very clear that they weren’t doing anything. So, that was that.”
His remarks bring an end to weeks of chatter suggesting the Rockets were preparing a blockbuster pursuit of Antetokounmpo. The rumors gained traction as questions about the Greek superstar’s future in Milwaukee mounted amid a summer of roster upheaval.
The Bucks retooled significantly, parting ways with Damian Lillard, Brook Lopez, and Pat Connaughton, while bringing in Myles Turner, Cole Anthony, and Gary Harris. Despite the shake-up, Milwaukee’s front office has stood firm: Antetokounmpo is untouchable.
And for good reason. The 29-year-old forward is coming off yet another dominant campaign—30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game across 73 contests—and raised his level even further in the postseason, averaging 33.0 points. Still, Milwaukee’s early playoff exit, their second first-round departure in three years, fueled speculation about Giannis’s long-term commitment.
Reports from NBA insider Shams Charania suggested Antetokounmpo has been “evaluating his future this entire offseason,” sparking interest from rival teams eager to pounce should he ever request a move.
But at least in Houston, the noise has been silenced. Stone’s words confirm that the Rockets haven’t engaged in any conversations with Milwaukee regarding Antetokounmpo. For now, the Rockets will continue their youth-driven build around Jalen Green, Alperen Şengün, Jabari Smith Jr., and Amen Thompson, while Giannis’s situation remains one of the league’s defining storylines heading into training camp.
