Could Nikola Vucevic Be the Missing Piece for the Lakers?
The Chicago Bulls remain one of the NBA’s most puzzling franchises, and their direction is once again under the spotlight. After acquiring Josh Giddey from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Alex Caruso, Chicago watched the young guard flourish into near All-Star form during the second half of the season. Still, negotiations with Giddey have been anything but smooth, signaling a possible shift toward building around youth. With Matas Buzelis showing flashes late last season and rookie Noa Essengue now in the mix, the Bulls look committed to a new era — leaving veteran center Nikola Vucevic as the odd man out.
Vucevic, who remains a productive big man in the league, has faced swirling trade rumors all offseason. He addressed the speculation in an interview with Basket USA, acknowledging that while Bulls GM Marc Eversley reassured him about his role, he understands the reality of being on an expiring contract: “Since I can’t control anything, I try not to worry.” For front offices, however, that combination of veteran talent and short-term flexibility is often too tempting to ignore — especially for contenders looking to bolster their roster.
One team that makes sense? The Los Angeles Lakers. While Golden State has long been floated as a possible landing spot for Vucevic, the Lakers may represent the more natural fit. A potential deal could see L.A. acquire Vucevic in exchange for Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, and a 2028 first-round pick swap (Top-5 protected). For Chicago, the move adds assets while clearing the way for their youth movement. For Los Angeles, Vucevic would provide size, floor spacing, and reliable scoring in the paint — exactly what LeBron James and Anthony Davis need alongside them. With the trade deadline looming, the question isn’t whether Vucevic is on the move, but whether Hollywood is his next stop.
