Clemson Tigers Name Adam Randall Starting Running Back Ahead of LSU Opener
Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney confirmed Thursday that senior Adam Randall will start at running back for the Tigers’ home opener against LSU. The announcement came on The ROAR radio station, officially giving Randall the nod over redshirt freshman David Eziomume, true freshman Gideon Davidson, and Keith Adams Jr.
Randall, a former wide receiver for Clemson, transitioned to the backfield and earned the starting role thanks to his versatility, leadership, and impressive performance during fall camp. Swinney emphasized that while Randall will start, the Tigers plan to utilize multiple backs throughout the season. “We’ve got four guys and we’ll go to battle with them, but it starts with Adam. He’s the starter. He’s earned that,” Swinney said.
The senior stood out with a 41-yard kickoff return in the ACC Championship and a notable 41-yard rush in the College Football Playoff, signaling his readiness to contribute in a more prominent role. While second-string back Jay Haynes is sidelined with an ACL injury, Clemson’s backfield remains deep, with Swinney planning to rotate multiple players weekly.
“Adam brings leadership and confidence. The game’s not too fast for him, he really checks all the boxes,” Swinney said. Randall, meanwhile, is embracing the opportunity with enthusiasm. “We got a chance to win a national championship, shoot, sign me up. It’s just another year—as long as I’m out there making plays, sign me up,” he said.
With Randall leading the way, Clemson’s running back room promises a dynamic, competitive approach as the Tigers aim for another deep playoff run.
